Online Security and Social Support: How Can We Help Each Other Online?
Robert Biddle (Carleton University)

Abstract

Social interaction is fundamental to human behaviour. As life has moved online, social software has become a common place. Online security, however, is typically an isolated activity, and we are alone as we consider threats and make decisions. We cannot see what others are doing, and even our closest friends may be unaware we are in danger. How can we use our knowledge of human behaviour and social software to increase safety in the online environment?
